Responsibilities
I supervise projects of the HSE Center for Language and Brain related to research on reading impairments (developmental dyslexia), including projects developing tools for assessing reading skills and cognitive functions important for reading. Since 2022, I also supervise projects investigating children's speech (in typically developing children and in various clinical groups) and language aquisition. In these projects, our team uses behavioral testing methods (including standardized computerized methods developed by us), eye-tracking and EEG.
In 2018-2022, I was actively involved in the development and standardization of the RuToPP (Russian Test of Phonological processing). Methodological guide to the RuToPP battery.

The Results of Dyslexia Diagnosis Depend on the Tests Used
HSE University researchers have found that complex phonological tests involving several cognitive processes predict dyslexia better than simple ones. This may happen due to the fact that Russian-speaking children with dyslexia generally do not have difficulties distinguishing speech sounds. However, it’s not enough to use only phonological tests to reliably diagnose the causes of reading disorders. The results of the study were published in the Journal of Speech, Language and Hearing Research.

Complex Phonological Tests Are Useful for Diagnosing Reading Dysfunction
HSE University researchers have confirmed that the level of phonological processing skills in children can impact their ability to master reading. Complex phonological tests are best suited to detect phonological impairment. The study was published on September 6, 2020, in the Journal of Research in Reading.
